Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. We do not keep or log those search terms on our systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
We retain an email or other direct message as needed to respond. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, the server may receive routine technical details about the visit:
- Page-view times and time spent on visited pages
- The device's Internet Protocol address

- Operating system and device category
- A referring website, when one is supplied
- The sequence of pages viewed

No Criminal-Record Data on File
We do not build, hold, or sell a database of personal criminal records. Marengo County content identifies official custodians such as the sheriff, the Circuit Clerk, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency criminal-history repository, and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Sex Offender Registry. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor data is not compiled into a consumer report or a record about another person.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Information entered there is governed by the provider's privacy policy rather than this policy. Each partner controls its own retention and disclosure practices, so review those terms before sending a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Marengo County sheriff, Alabama courts, ALEA, other government sources, legal resources, or outside search providers. Once a visitor leaves our website, the destination's privacy terms apply. Read them before supplying personal information.
Advertising providers may use their systems to measure activity across websites and select targeted ads. We do not operate that cross-site tracking.

We do not sell personal information. Limited data may be available to:
- Analytics providers that measure site traffic and operation
- Search partners processing a query submitted through their tool
- Advertising networks serving ads on a page
- A government or law-enforcement body acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
We use customary safeguards for data under our control. No internet-connected service can guarantee perfect security, so we cannot promise that a breach or unauthorized access will never occur.
Users Under 18
The website is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from a person under eighteen. If we learn that a minor submitted such data, we will delete it.
Your Data Rights
Rights can depend on the law that applies where a user lives. Alabama's Open Records Act, including Alabama Code section 36-12-40, concerns public writings held by government custodians and does not turn this private site into a public records office. Alabama also restricts some government criminal-history material, including youthful-offender records under section 15-19-7. Subject to applicable law, a user may:
- Request correction of inaccurate personal data we control
- Ask what personal information we hold about that user
- Request deletion where the law permits it
- Object to certain processing where an applicable right exists
